New York で入浴(^▽^)/

People often call New York 'The Big Apple'. It is a nickname of New York. But why? In the 1920s and 1930s, jazz musicians all wanted to work in New York. "There are a lot of apples on the tree," they said "but when you take New York City, you take The Big Apple!" Of course, everybody wanted some of The Big Apple - and they want some today, too! 'The Big Apple' was spread by Fitzgerald. More than twenty million people visit New York every year. When visitors think about New York, they usually think about Manhattan which is an island about 22 kilometers long and 4 kilometers wide. But New York City has five "boroughs": Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island. Four hundred years ago, Manhattan Island was the home of the Algonguin Indians. In 1609, a man called Henry Hudson came up the river to Manhattan. Today, the river is called the Hudson River. In 1626, a Dutchman called Peter Minuit came to Manhattan, and he paid the Indians about 24 dollars for island. He called the little town New Amsterdom. In 1790, about 33,000 people lived in New York, but then millions more men and women began to come to america from all over the world. They all wanted to be part of the new country, and many of them came to live in New York. At first they came from Germany and Ireland, then later on from Italy, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Russia, Africa, and China.
There are a lot of things to see in New York, and it is easy for the visitor to get to the different parts of the city. One of the famous place is The Statue of Liberty. Liberty Island, New York Harbour. Take a ferry from Battery Park. The French people gave this statue to the American people in 1886. You can walk up 354 stairs to get to the top of the statue. There is a museum on Liberty Island, at the foot of the statue. We can go up the statue and we can see all over the New York City. The broken chair she wearing means the freedom from slave and so on. It is just the US. We can feel the history of New York and The US.
Many New Yorkers say that you can buy everything you want in New York. And some say, "Yes, and everything you don't want, too!" Fifth Avenue has some of the biggest names - Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Lord and Taylor, Gucci.I like Gucci but I don't have any Gucci. There are lots of fast food shops to buy something to eat quickly. There are food stands on many street corners. Like McDonald's, Coca-Cola.
